Refugee Platform in Egypt Draped in Black While Mourning Palestinian Journalists from Gaza and the Empty Conscience of the Globe

Tomorrow, Monday, September 1st, 2025, Refugee Platform in Egypt will join more than 250 media outlets from over 50 countries in a global campaign to stop the killing of Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, demand an end to the Israeli occupation’s extermination campaign against Gaza, and lead the way for international press to access the Gaza Strip to conclusively reveal what is taking place in Gaza so as to stop the obstruction of the truth committed by the Israeli occupation.

Since the beginning of the ethnic cleansing campaign against Gaza in October 2023 until now, more than 246 Palestinian journalists were targeted by the Israeli occupation’s military apparatus, some of whom were killed inside hospitals while covering war crimes against civilians.

What is happening is not only the targeting of everyday people simply doing their job, but also a systematic attempt to silence and eradicate the remaining Palestinian broadcasters and reporters revealing and recording the extermination campaign that has gone on for nearly two years as of now.

Journalism is not a crime, and freedom of speech is an integral part of the human right to expression and life. Therefore, we at the Refugee Platform in Egypt declare our full solidarity with the journalists of Gaza. We stand with them in the face of systemic oppression and settler-colonial violence, and we consider their struggle an extension of the struggle of all forcibly displaced people and marginalized communities for freedom, dignity, and justice.

We wear black today, not only in mourning for the Palestinian journalists who were taken from us; but also in protest against the silence of the entire world that continues to ignore these crimes, while being led by Arab governments that stand by and watch while lives are lost and the voice of truth is suppressed.

We call on our audience, our readers, and all who believe in human justice to join this campaign by:

  • Sharing Palestinian journalists pages in solidarity
  • Amplifying Palestinian voices and refusing to be complicit in the suppression of truth
  • Using the hashtags: #protectjournalistsingaza #LetReportersIntoGaza

Solidarity Knows No Bounds

Just like how we will always stand with forcibly displaced people, marginalized communities, and oppressed groups everywhere; today we stand with the Palestinian journalists who were murdered in Gaza alongside Palestinian civilians who are denied their most basic right to life, liberty, national liberation, sovereignty, self-determination, and self-expression.
