The Refugees Platform in Egypt, its staff, and activists express deepest solidarity with Executive Director and refugee rights defender Nour Khalil and his family. Who were subjected to severe intimidation during the past two days.
The Platform expresses its profound appreciation for the global solidarity and support demonstrated by individuals, activists, and organizations over the past two days. We extend special thanks to all who attempted to intervene and monitored the developments concerning the siege, intimidation of Khalil’s family, and the attempted arrest of his brother. This event can’t be isolated from Khalil’s activism and defending the people on the move’s rights.
Despite the heightened security presence and the recent targeting of their residence, the Platform confirms that the family’s safety has been fully secured thus far.
The Platform emphasizes that this widespread solidarity is more than mere moral support; it serves as a crucial guarantee for the safety of communities and the protection of individuals, including victims, survivors, human rights defenders, and their families.
In this context, the Refugee Platform in Egypt affirms that human rights work is not a crime, but rather an indicator of a vibrant and healthy society, reflecting the presence of individuals and groups striving to monitor violations, promote respect for the rule of law, and hold various entities accountable, We hope not to witness a recurrence of such an incident, whether against us or against any citizens who peacefully express their opinions or human rights defenders.
Furthermore, the Platform stresses that practices such as raiding citizens’ homes without legal justification, aimed at intimidation and harassment, are damaging to the state, undermine the rule of law, and contradict the state’s constitutional and legal obligations.
We continue our work with your solidarity and support.
