No Human being is Illegal

Words are important and have a strong influence on reality and its perceptions

A person should never be described as an “illegal or illegal migrant.” migration is not a crime.

Language shapes people’s perceptions, and discriminatory language in referring to migrants leads to perceptions and actions that negatively affect their daily lives.

Illegality is used to describe people who cross borders without documents and it denies them basic rights to life.

Discriminatory language towards people on the move influences immigration/asylum policies and public perception of them and justifies criminalization, prosecution, detention, and forcible deportation to areas that threaten their safety and lives.

Inflammatory language used by the government or most news sources should not be repeated. The more a word or phrase is repeated, the more powerful and popular it becomes, and the more harmful it is to many migrants.
